Why we visited President Tinubu at Aso Rock – PDP G5

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State speaks on behalf of the group after meeting with the President.

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday received a group of politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are popularly known as the G5 or the Integrity Group.

The group, which comprises one serving governor and four former governors, paid a courtesy visit to Tinubu at his office in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The group includes Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and former Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.

Speaking after their closed-door meeting with the President, Makinde, who spoke on behalf of the group, said they came to let Tinubu know that they stood for fairness, justice and equity in the country.

“We came to let the President know what we stand for; fairness, justice and equity. And we haven’t changed. We are going towards Mr President coming with us on the route for fairness, for justice and for equity in Nigeria,” Makinde said.

Makinde said that nation-building is a difficult task that requires constant evaluation and dialogue.

He said that they had been supporting Tinubu’s administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the interest of national unity and development.

He said that they were not asking for any favour or appointment from Tinubu but for him to continue to uphold fairness, justice and equity in Nigeria.

The G5 group is known for working against their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the February 25 presidential election.

They were also instrumental in Tinubu’s victory in some of their states where they delivered votes for him and the APC.

Some political analysts believe that the G5 group may be seeking to align with Tinubu ahead of the 2025 general elections.
