Why Governor Akeredolu is Governing Ondo from Ibadan – Aide

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has been working from Ibadan, Oyo State, since he returned from a medical trip abroad in September.

His absence from the state capital, Akure, has sparked criticism from the opposition and some residents who accused him of neglecting his duties.

However, the governor’s Special Adviser on Special Duty and Strategy, Doyin Odebowale, has defended his boss, saying that he is not working from Akure because of accommodation challenges.

Odebowale explained that the governor had been staying in a two-bedroom apartment at the Presidential Lodge, which was built for former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s visit. He said that the apartment was not suitable for the governor’s current state of health, which requires proper care and facilities.

He also said that the Old Governor’s Office, which was converted into the office of the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ODIPA), was not available for the governor to use.

He said that a new place was being arranged for the governor in Akure and it was almost completed.

Odebowale dismissed the allegations that the governor was shirking his responsibilities, saying that he had been signing laws and paying salaries since he came back.

He wondered why some people wanted to see the governor physically, asking if they expected him to be carrying cement or supervising workmen at the site.

He assured the people of Ondo State that the governor was committed to delivering good governance and fulfilling his campaign promises.
