Visa-Free Travel to Canada for 13 More Countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America
Canada has announced that it will allow visa-free travel for visitors from 13 more countries across Asia, Africa, Central and South America starting from June 6, 2023.
The visa-free travel is extended to passport holders from Antigua and Barbuda, St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, St Kitts-Nevis, Panama, Argentina, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Morocco, Seychelles, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Thailand and the Philippines, according to the Canadian government.
However, the visa exemption only applies to travellers from these countries who have either held a Canadian visa in the last 10 years or who currently hold a valid United States non-immigrant visa. They will still need to apply for an electronic travel authorization (eTA) before flying to Canada.
The eTA is a simple online application that costs seven dollars per person and is valid for up to five years. It allows travellers to visit Canada for up to six months for either business or leisure purposes.
Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, said that the expansion of the eTA program makes it easier for “known travellers” from these countries to come to Canada for fun and business.
He said: “This exciting development means that more individuals from around the world can now embark on unforgettable adventures, explore our diverse landscapes, reunite with family and friends, and immerse themselves in our vibrant culture without the hurdle of visa requirements. This expansion not only enhances convenience for travellers, it will also increase travel, tourism and economic benefits, as well as strengthen global bonds with these 13 countries.”
He also said that introducing visa-free air travel will reduce the workload of Canada’s visa offices and allow them to process visa applications more efficiently for other applicants.
Canada already offers visa-free travel to more than 50 countries, including most European countries, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. United States citizens do not need a visa or an eTA to enter Canada unless they are moving to Canada to work or study.
Canada is a popular destination for tourists, students and immigrants from around the world. It is known for its multiculturalism, natural beauty, quality of life and economic opportunities.
