VIDEO $ PHOTOS: Anthony Joshua Presents Heavyweight Titles To Buhari In UK
World Heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua has officially presented his four titles to President Muhammadu Buhari.
The boxer presented the titles on Saturday to Buhari and other important Nigerian dignitaries in the United Kingdom.
Showing respect to the number one citizen of Nigeria, the 30-year-old prostrated to pay homage to President Buhari in line with the tradition of the Yoruba cultural group.
Recall that British-Nigerian born boxer defeated Andy Ruiz in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night, December 7, 2019 to reclaim his heavyweight belts.
The British boxer was born to a Nigerian-Irish father, Robert Joshua, and a Nigerian mother, Yeta Odusanya.
Joshua’s father (Robert) is the grandson of one of Sagamu’s greatest men and late patriarch Omo-Oba Daniel Adebambo Joshua, who was born in 1882.
Ruiz had won the match in Madison Square, New York,in June 2019 while Joshua reclaimed the tiles in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia in December 2019.
The judges unanimously adjudged Joshua winner with 118-110, 118-110 and 119-109 over Ruiz Jr and made history by winning the first world heavyweight title bout in the Middle East.
The 30-year-old now has his WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO heavyweight titles back.
He is the fourth deposed world heavyweight champion to win an immediate rematch in 127-year history of the category — 11th fighter to have attempted it
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari visited London for 6 days trip according to the State House.
He is to participate in the inaugural UK-Africa Investment Summit and the summit opens on Monday, January 20.
Buhari is expected back in Nigeria on Thursday, next week.
It will be his first foreign trip this new year.
The Presidency, in a statement by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, explained that the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, would play host at the summit.
The statement read in part, “Apart from highlighting new perspectives on UK-Africa Partnership for prosperity, issues of Sustainable Finance and Infrastructure, Trade and Investment, Future African Growth Sectors and Clean Energy and Climate, are expected to dominate presentations and discussions during the Summit.
The Presidency listed those on Buhari’s entourage to include “Governors Yahaya Bello, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya and Okezie Ikpeazu of Kogi, Gombe and Abia states, respectively.
