VIDEO: Panic in Ekiti as company drills borehole on ancient shrine; miracle water gushes out
There is panic in the ancient town of Ikere, headquarter of Ikere local government of Ekiti State when an acclaimed miracle water was seen gushing out and spreading across the area when a drilling company was drilling a borehole on an ancient shrine, although unknown to both landowner and the contractor.
The incident occurred at the Odo Oja area, beside the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, along Albert – Banji Aluko road in the town.
It was gathered that one pastor’s name Kola Ogunlana gave a drilling company a contract to help him drill a borehole in his house because of the scarcity of the potable water in the area.
Newsflash Nigeria learnt that the house of the pastor is close to ‘Arosi water and the water is very spiritual.
Arosi water is just like a dam; it restricts the flow of water and underground streams. The water is near the river Osun in the town.
Arosi water is a spiritual dam and the family compound who owns the lands in the area named ‘Asa’ always perform ritual to appease the water gods in order to save the area.
Newsflash Nigeria who visited the area reported that when the company drilled just about two pipes (63.2 ft), water started gushing out heavily from the hole and littered the whole area. And up till the moment of filling this report, the water is yet to stop.
However, when our correspondent consulted one of the Geologists in the town, Mr Deji Ogunsakin described the event as ‘artesian aquifer’.
He said “Artesian aquifer is a confined aquifer containing groundwater under positive pressure. It has trapped water, surrounded by layers of impermeable rock or clay which apply positive pressure to the water contained within the aquifer.
“If a well were to be sunk into an artesian aquifer, water in the well-pipe would rise to a height corresponding to the point where hydrostatic equilibrium is reached.
“A well drilled into such an aquifer is called an ‘artesian well’. If water reaches the ground surface under the natural pressure of the aquifer, the well is termed a ‘flowing artesian well’, he said.
It is worthy of note that in the time past, People don’t ply the route because of the water not until when Late Evang Bamidele Olumilua, the former governor of old Ondo State decided to construct a road and a bridge in the area.
