There was jubilation on Tuesday evening at a Naval facility after the exit of former Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas and other Service Chiefs.
In a viral video circulated on social media, scores of officers were in celebration mood as they screamed, jumped and hugged each.
Newsflash report that President Muhammadu Buhari had removed Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok Ekwe Ibas and appointed Rear Admiral A. Z. Gambo as the replacement.
Others appointed were Major-General Leo Irabor – Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General I. Attahiru – Chief of Army Staff; Air-Vice Marshal I. O. Amao – Chief of Air Staff.
Apart from Ibas, others finally retired were Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
Newsflash gathered that officers and men of the Armed Forces across the country received news of the ex-military heads’ departure with joy.
Citing insecurity, most Nigerians, including stalwarts of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), repeatedly urged Buhari to remove the Service Chiefs.
The Nigerian leader appointed the quartet in July 2015.
In December, a former Senator, Rufai Hanga, said Buhari refused to let them go because he was afraid of a coup.
