VIDEO: Education minister beat up woman in a nightclub
The Minister of state for Education in South Africa, Mduduzi Manana, has admitted to assaulting a middle-aged woman identified as Mandisa Duma at a Johannesburg nightclub after she apparently called him gay during an argument.
Manana made the admission during his first appearance at the Randburg Magistrates Court.
According to the embattled Minister, he became angry when some fun-seekers at the club, which included Duma, disagreed with him on who should replace President Jacob Zuma at the end of his tenure in December.
Manana, however, said he had apologized unreservedly, through a press statement, to Duma, her family and all South Africans for the incident.
He also said he apologized to the Cubana nightclub and urged them to assist the police in their investigation.
Meanwhile, calls have been mounting across the country for Manana to be fired as deputy minister. President Jacob Zuma was one of the political heads who spoke out against the Education Minister..
Magistrate Liezel Davis, granted Manana R5,000 bail and adjourned the case to September 13th, 2017 to give room for further investigation.
