VIDEO: Customs Officer Slaps Governor Okowa’s Aide
Samson Nwachukwu, one of the aides of the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowo, has been assaulted by an officer of the Nigerian Customs.
It was gathered that the incident happened on Saturday along the Benin/Agbor expressway.
NEWSFLASH NIGERIA learnt that Nwachukwu was driving with a friend when he was stopped by two customs officers and a soldier.
In a trending video on social media seen by NEWSFLASH NIGERIA, a customs officer yet to be identified slapped Samson Nwachukwu, a Human Rights volunteer and Special Assistant to Delta State Governor.
An argument ensued between them and although it’s currently unclear what caused it, the customs officer proceeded to slap Nwachukwu.
The incident has been widely condemned by Nigerians who have demanded an immediate investigation and arrest of the erring officers.
His colleague, Success Ossai called on the Customs Service to identify the officer and take necessary action.
Via his Facebook page, he said, “Help identify this officer so he can be arrested. This Nigeria Custom officer action is barbaric and needs to be dealt with by the authority. No one deserved to be treated this way.”
Rights advocate, Harrison Gwamnishu posted the video on Sunday on his Facebook page.
He said Nwachukwu, who is also a volunteer for Behind Bars, “never retaliated but endured the pain”.
“We will protest this assault till the Authority discipline these men.
“We are shutting down that expressway to demand Justice. We want to know his crime. #EndBrutality.”
Citizens are regularly assaulted by security agents with most getting away with the act.
In October 2020, youths participated in the EndSARS nationwide protest that shook Nigeria and attracted international attention.
The demonstration led to a scrap of the notorious police unit and the formation of panels of inquiry in many states.
