In this era of social media videos, social justice, and calling out men in power, it is often disheartening to see political leaders elected by the people dealing with them harshly.
The chairman of Abak local government area in Akwa-Ibom allegedly beat up an artisan (decorator) for calling him out on a 75,000 Naira debt owed to him for months on Facebook.
A video surfaced of the accused chairman, Ibok Williams’ boy flogging the artisan who was seen laying on the floor mercilessly with a belt.
The decorator is said to have gone on Facebook to call out the chairman for his payment after months of asking for it.
He was then invited to the chairman’s house where he was asked to lay down on the hard floor, literally walked all over and flogged with a belt. He was asked who had sent him to humiliate the chairman?
Twitter users in Nigeria have been retweeting this video and asking for justice for the artisan who was done wrong.
This is the second elected official since June that has had to face physical assault allegations. With Senator Elisha Abbo’s case still in court over sex toy shop assault, it is very infuriating for Nigerians to be seeing another elected official assault a citizen for no apparent reason.
He is yet to make a comment as to the authenticity of the accusations and whether or not he actually assaulted the artisan for no reason at all. Meanwhile, Twitter users are still asking for justice on behalf of the artisan who was just trying to make a living and survive.
