‘US Orubebe’… Nigerians mock Trump for ‘rejecting’ US election results

As the 2020 US election results are trickling in, it appears that President Trump who was leading initially had since been overthrown by Biden, a situation which the US President has frowned at, alleging that there might have been some manipulations of the results.

Nigerians have taken to the social media to describe President Donald Trump as “US Orubebe” for complaining about the ongoing 2020 US election results.

Newsflash247 reports that the United States at the moment is conducting its Presidential election. The US election 2020 is between President Trump and former Vice President, Joe Biden. While Trump is seeking a second term in office on the platform of the Republican Party, Biden on the other hand, is hoping to unseat him using the platform of the Democratic Party.

As the 2020 US election results are trickling in, it appears that President Trump who was leading initially had since been overthrown by Biden, a situation which the US President has frowned at, alleging that there might have been some manipulations of the results.

Trump had taken to the micro-blogging site, Twitter to tweet that: “Last night I was leading, often solidly, in many key States, in almost all instances Democrat-run & controlled. Then, one by one, they started to magically disappear as surprise ballot dumps were counted. VERY STRANGE, and the “pollsters” got it completely & historically wrong!”

Reacting to President Trump’s rants on Twitter, Nigerians referred to the United States President as “US Orubebe” in reference to Godsday Orubebe, a former minister of Niger Delta, who disrupted the 2015 election during the collation of results of the presidential election at the International Conference in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Newsflash247 recalled that Orubebe who led some officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the then ruling party, disrupted the exercise on March 31, 2015, accusing the then Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, of bias.

Elder Orubebe at the time had dramatically seized the microphone for minutes insisting that Mr. Jega was biased against the PDP, hence, should suspend the announcement of the result. He did this when it was obvious that the candidate of the PDP, former President Goodluck Jonathan, was losing.

The PDP agent at the time had accused Mr. Jega of promptly attending to complaints from the then opposition party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), while disregarding those from the PDP.

Seeing that Trump displayed some traits of Orubebe on Twitter after some of the US election results that emerged on Thursday did not favour him, Nigerians mocked Trump and gave the United States President a new name “US Orubebe“.
