University students arrested in Ekiti over alleged cultism
Six students of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti has been arrested by Ekiti State Police Command over alleged cultism.
The students were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday after a tip-off by members of the public.
According to a statement by the spokesperson for the command, ASP Sunday Abutu, the six students, who confessed to the crime.
The statement reads, “Today being 01/03/2022 at about 08:30hrs, the Command received credible information. information that some members of DENORSEMEN SECRET CULT GROUP were holding a meeting in their hideout in Oye-Ekiti.

“Upon the receipt of the information, the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) mobilized to the scene where six suspected cultists namely; Omole Paul (21 years), Okoro Wisdom (22 years), David Makinlola (20 years), Egbabo Kester (22 years), Raymond Ejekwu (21 years) and Daniel Chiwumba (28 years) were arrested.
“Items recovered from the suspects at the scene are:
(i) Two(2) cutlasses
(ii) One(1) hammer
iii. Two(2) cups of loud hem
(iv) Three(3) wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and
(v) Different criminal charms.”
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Tunde Mobayo, while maintaining that the arrested suspects will be prosecuted accordingly, implored parents and guardians to always emphasize the dangers of cultism and other criminal activities to their children and wards.
