A very talented young man has got himself trending online after constructing a barrier sensitive autonomous car model which he did as his final year project at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
Read what the young man shared online;
Nigeria paid my school fees for five years!
So, I had to solve a grand problem in the transport sector.
This is Leemah Mobil, a scaled down model of a typical road car. You can’t crash this car with half consciousness on the steering wheel. If it is to collide with a barrier in its front, it will automatically actuate the brakes. If something tries to collide with it from the rear, it will accelerate and evade the danger.
This solution models a typical accident scenario where rear end “shunt collisions” occur very regularly on our Nigerian roads.
These technologies are called Automatic Emergency Braking System (AEBS) and Rear Collision Warning and Evasion System (RCWES). Though the former technology is already existent on some of today’s state-of-the-art cars, it is worthy to note that this is the first mention of the latter. I named this combination as Barrier Sensitive Accident Avoidance System (BSAAS).
OH, yes it’s my final year project titled “design and fabrication of a barrier sensitive autonomous car model”. In partial fulfilment of the award of Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering…
Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. A school like no other I must say!
