Kenya’s incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta has been declared the winner of the country’s Presidential election.
The Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Wafula Chebukati, announced that Kenyatta garnered 54.27 percent of the total votes cast, beating his close rival Raila Odinga who secured 44.74 percent of the votes.
In terms of numbers, the final results showed that Kenyatta secured 8,203,290 votes, while Odinga got 6,762,224 votes.
In a short victory speech after he was declared President-elect, Kenyatta extended a “hand of friendship” to Odinga, adding that he looked forward to partnering with all Kenyans in building the nation.
