Two Senators Quit PDP Over Party Crisis and Squabbles
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost two of its senators, Mathew Urhoghide (Edo) and Ayo Akinyelure (Ondo), who announced their resignation from the party on Wednesday.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, who presided over the plenary session, read their separate letters of resignation.
Urhoghide cited the internal crisis and squabbles within the PDP at the national and state levels as the reason for his decision. He said he could no longer function and grow as a democrat in the party.
He thanked the party for giving him the platform to serve as a two-term senator and expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for their friendship and support.
Akinyelure said he resigned from the PDP effective from June 11. He said he wanted to explore other opportunities and areas of service to Ondo State and Nigeria.
He also appreciated the party for allowing him to serve Ondo Central Senatorial District and Nigeria in the Senate of the 9th Assembly on the platform of PDP.
