Two national team coaches sacked at CHAN 2018

Some national team coaches have been shocked with abrupt termination of their appointments as the round robin group stage of the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) 2018 ended.

As at the filling of this report the contract of the German Rwanda’s Coach, Antoine Hey has been officially terminated and Kanfory Bangoura who handled Guinea’s senior team as well as the CHAN squad of locally-based players since July 2016 could not escape the axe.

The Rwandan Football Federation (FERWAFA), reportedly laid off their German employed coach; Hey over poor outing of the East-central African team at the ongoing championship in Morocco.

The federation however, in a Twitter statement said the contract termination was at the request of the foreign trainer. FERWAFA further stated it was going to meet with the sports ministry to review the coach Hey ‘s request.

Rwandan team, the Amavubis were pooled in Group C of the tournament along with Nigeria, Libya, and Equatorial Guinea. They managed a goalless draw against Nigeria in their first match, a one-nil win against Equatorial Guniea and a late loss in their final game against Libya.

Eight national teams have crashed out at the group stage of the biennial tourney and Rwanda led by Hey was the second casualty.

Reportedly, Guinea could not also wait for the tourney which ends February 14, to also fire their national team coach, Kanfory Bangoura over poor outing at the tournament.

Bangoura who’s also known as Lappe had been apermanent coach of Guinea’s senior team close to 12 years but met an anticipated ending at the tournament.

The CHAN enters the knockout rounds this weekend. Two games will be played on Saturday, January 27, 2018, with the host, Morocco taking on Namibia and Sudan facing Zambia.

In the other round will see the Super Eagles of Nigeria trail tackles against Angola while Congo and Libya will lock horns to complete the fixtures.

Nigeria v Angola (16:30 GMT in Tangier)
