Two Men Charged with Conspiracy and Theft of Diesel and Cable from Telecom Mast in Ekiti
The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned two men, Azees Agbaye (33) and Alaba Oke (45), before the Chief Magistrate Court, Ado Ekiti Division, for allegedly conspiring and stealing diesel and cable from a telecom mast.
The police prosecutor, Celeb Leramo, told the court on Thursday that the accused persons committed the offence on November 15, at about 10:10a.m at a telecom mast, EK10053C Olat area Adebayo in Ado Ekiti.
Leramo said that the accused persons “did conspire together to commit felony to wit, stealing.”
He further said that they “did steal 94 litres of diesel oil valued at N232,000, property of Pyramid Risk Management Consult.”
He also said that they “on November 11, at about 2.30a.m in the same place, did steal cable wire valued at N45,000, from the same company.”
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened and was punishable under Section 421, 295, 302 (1)(A) of the Criminal Law Vol. 1, Law of the Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021. He urged the court to remand the accused persons in custody pending the outcome of the investigation.
The defence counsel, A. V. Ogunjobi, pleaded with the court to grant his clients bail, assuring that they would provide reliable sureties and would not abscond from justice. He said that his clients were innocent until proven guilty and that they had no previous criminal record.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, granted the accused persons bail of N25,000 with one surety each and adjourned the case till December 4, for hearing.
He ordered that the sureties must be residents of Ado Ekiti and must produce evidence of tax payment and identity cards. He also warned the accused persons to stay away from trouble and report to the court on the adjourned date.
