Chilean forward, Alexis Sanchez will wear the No.7 shirt at Manchester United.
Sanchez is on the verge of completing a move to Old Trafford from the Emirate Stadium.
Chilean newspaper, El Mercurio reports that the Red Devils lead the race to sign the 29-year-old as they are willing to better Manchester City’s contract offer and go closer to Arsenal‘s £35 million asking price.
Manchester United have reportedly offered the Chilean international the chance to become the Premier League’s highest-paid player and are prepared to give a £30m transfer fee to Arsenal.
Manchester City, who came close to signing the former Barcelona man for £60m in the summer, are set to admit defeat in their pursuit.
City are reluctant to increase their £20m bid to Arsenal while their contract falls some way short of United’s offer.
The Citizens are also not prepared to pay the extra fees which have been demanded by Sanchez’s representatives.
According to the report, United are close to signing Sanchez, and the club will offer the forward their vacant No.7 shirt once he joins.
The No.7 shirt has been worn by several United legends such as George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo, and has been vacant since Memphis Depay left the club.
