A heavy-duty vehicle on Thursday lost control in Ado Ekiti and killed one Pa Ajayi Fatoba, a passer-by in Okeyimi area of the state capital
The accident, which occurred in the morning, threw residents into mourning.
It was learnt that the vehicle carrying a sticker of Ife Oluwa Tippers Association was coming from Okeila area of the town when the driver, Akintunde Idowu, lost control and crossed to the other side of the road.
“He killed an elderly man who was passing by and trapped a motorcycle underneath. The motorcyclist escaped the accident by whiskers,” an eyewitness said.

When our correspondent arrived at the scene, he observed that the registration number of the vehicle had been removed.
The Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Commission, Muhammad Olowo, confirmed that one person died in the accident.
Also, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Caleb Ikechukwu, said police had launched an investigation into the case.
According to him, preliminary findings indicated that the driver lost control and killed one person in the accident.
He confirmed that the police had impounded the vehicle while charges might be pressed against the driver depending on the outcome of the investigation.
He added that the driver was already in police custody.
