The Zaria Central Mosque is one of the oldest and largest mosques in Nigeria. It was built in the 16th century by Muhammad Rumfa, the Sultan of Kano, and has been renovated several times over the years. It is a popular destination for pilgrims and tourists who visit Zaria, a historic city that was once the capital of the Hausa Kingdoms.
The collapse of the mosque has raised concerns about the safety and maintenance of ancient structures in Nigeria, especially those that are used for religious purposes. Many Nigerians have taken to social media to express their shock and sadness over the incident, as well as to call for better preservation and protection of cultural heritage sites.
