Tinubu Meets CBN Governor Emefiele at Aso Villa

President Bola Tinubu held a meeting with some key economic players at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.

Among them were Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL); and Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker of the House of Representatives.

Tinubu arrived at the villa around 2:30pm and was welcomed by a parade by the Guards of Honour.

He was also received by Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Permanent Secretary, State House, Tijjani Umar. Two of his allies, Wale Edun, a former Lagos Finance Commissioner, and James Faleke, a House of Reps member, accompanied him to the meeting.

The meeting lasted for about an hour and Emefiele left without speaking to the press.

However, Kyari addressed the media on the issue of fuel subsidy and said the government was working on a solution that would benefit Nigerians.

Tinubu had earlier outlined his economic agenda in his inaugural speech and had urged the CBN to work towards a unified exchange rate.

He had also promised to review the naira redesign policy of the previous administration which was implemented by the CBN. He had said that he would treat both currencies as legal tender.

Emefiele is the third CBN governor that Tinubu would work with. He was appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan and reappointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
