Tinubu Holds Talks with AFREXIM Bank Chief in Paris on Trade and Development Matters
Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday held a meeting with Prof. Benedict Oramah, the President of the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM Bank), in Paris, France.
Newsflash Nigeria reports that the meeting took place on the sidelines of the High Level Summit for New Global Financing Pact, which Tinubu attended along with other world leaders.
The summit, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, aimed at reaching a consensus for redesigning the global financial architecture to favour poverty reduction, debt restructuring or cancellation, and more consideration for vulnerable countries affected by climate change and Covid-19.
According to a statement from Tinubu’s media office, the meeting with Oramah and his team focused on trade and development issues affecting Africa and Nigeria in particular.
Tinubu commended AFREXIM Bank for its role in promoting intra-African trade and facilitating industrialization and export development in the continent. He also expressed his support for the bank’s initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), and the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE).
Oramah thanked Tinubu for his leadership and vision for Nigeria and Africa. He briefed him on the bank’s activities and achievements, as well as its challenges and opportunities. He also invited Tinubu to visit the bank’s headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, to explore areas of collaboration and partnership.
