Tinubu Approves Mandatory Exam for Public Servants
President Bola Tinubu has approved the conduct of a compulsory examination for public servants in the Federal Public Service in 2023.
The examination is a statutory requirement for the career progression of all staff in the public service, according to a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation.
The examination will be conducted by the Career Management Office of the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, and will involve newly appointed Administrative Officers, Foreign Affairs Officers, Executive Officers, Police Officers, Para Military and other Professionals in the public service.
The examination will cover all aspects of the civil service rules and regulations, as well as general knowledge and current affairs.
The examination will take place from Tuesday 19th to Friday 22nd September 2023, through a Computer Based Test (CBT) method.
The registration will be done online via the COMPRO Portal on www.ohcsf.gov.ng. The candidates must print out their slips and get them endorsed by their Head of Department. They must also upload their letter of first appointment while filling out the online form.
The circular stated that any officer who fails to pass the examination after three consecutive attempts shall be required to resign or withdraw from the service in accordance with Public Service Rules 060203 and 060204.
The circular also listed the categories of officers eligible to sit for the examination, which include:
- Administrative Officers/Professionals (Doctors, Engineers, Teachers, Nurses etc) appointed directly into the Federal Public Service on first appointment;
- Administrative Officers/Professionals (Doctors, Engineers, Teachers, Nurses etc) promoted from junior posts, who are yet to be confirmed;
- Administrative Officers/Professionals transferred from other Scheduled Services who at the date of transfer are under the age of 40 years and have not satisfied conditions for confirmation;
- All unconfirmed Professionals e.g Doctors, Engineers, Architects, Surveyors that are in Government employment;
- Officers appointed on first appointment as Executive Officers;
- Executive Officers transferred from other Scheduled Services who at the date of transfer are under the age of 40 years and have not satisfied conditions for confirmation; and
- Unconfirmed Assistant Executive Officers promoted from junior posts.
The circular said that the examination is part of President Tinubu’s efforts to improve the capacity and performance of public servants in line with his vision for good governance and national development.
