Tight security as Osinbajo, Atiku,Tinubu, Alaafin, others attend Olubadan coronation
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, ex-Vice President Atiku Abubarkar, APC presidential aspirant Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and others have arrived Mapo Hall for the coronation of 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan Senator Lekan Balogun.
Others are Governors Seyi Makinde(Oyo); Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); Dapo Abiodun (Ogun); Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, among others.
Also at the presentation ceremony are Ex-Governors Rashidi Ladoja (Oyo), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Deputy Governors Murphy Ayedatiwa (Ondo) and Benedict Alabi (Osun).
Ex-Lagos Deputy Governor Otunba Femi Pedro is representing Tinubu at the event.
There is a heavy security presence in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital as more dignitaries arrive at the venue.
Major places like Iwo Road, Iyana-Church, Agodi, Gate, Mokola, Ojoo, Beere, Dugbe and all adjourning routes that lead to Mapo have security operatives stationed in strategic places.
Guest started arriving at the venue as early as 7 am with security operatives having a tough time enforcing law and order at the venue.
Osinbajo arrived by 11:05 am with Governor Makinde and other dignitaries, signalling the official commencement of the event.
Different drummers are showing skills trying to outperform one another with many traditional and social-cultural groups on hand in various colourful outfits to celebrate the occasion.
Intermittent gunshots from local hunters and groups rented the air.
Meanwhile, the Oba elect, Senator Lekan Balogun has arrived at Mapo Hall for his coronation as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The arrival of the monarch was preceded by a large advance of family members, members of the Council and Oloris.
The arrival signals the completion of all coronation rites and traditions, which would be capped with the presentation of staff of the office.
The 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland succeeds Oba Saliu Adetunji who joined his ancestors on January 2nd, 2022.
Markets, shops and businesses in the axis were closed in solidarity with the new monarch.
