Tension In Ekiti As Mad Man Stabs Monarch To Death

Confusion and palpable fear enveloped Odo-Oro-Ekiti, in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti on Monday, as a mentally deranged person was said to have stabbed to death the traditional ruler of the community, Oba Gbadebo Ogunsakin.

The incident which Newsflash247 gathered took place on Monday, had thrown the community into mourning.
Some of the residents of community, who volunteered information on the incident, said the traditional ruler was stabbed with a knife by the mentally deranged person shortly after the late traditional ruler had a council meeting with his chiefs.
The Public Relations Officer,(PPRO) of Ekiti State Command , DSP Caleb Ikechukwu who confirmed the incident.
He said, “It is true the incidence actually happened and that policemen have swooped into action.
“The person alleged is an unsounded mind fellow and he actually escaped into the bush after committing the crime, our men are combing the bush to fetch the suspect out.
“All I can say for now is that the suspect is within reach and will be put in custody.”
A resident, Mr. Henry Olu, said the mentally deranged person, whose name was simply given as Kunle was said to be from the royal family of the slain traditional ruler.

Newsflash247 gathered that the traditional ruler was attacked after he finished the community council meeting trying to board his official car from his palace to his resident.

The driver of the traditional ruler’s raise alarm for help from the monarch shortly after the council’s meeting.

“According to Henry Olu said, On getting there we saw our traditional ruler in a pool of blood, as Kunle had stabbed him with a knife in the chest.

 

” We tried rushing him to the hospital, but Oba Ogunsakin gave up the ghost,” the source said.

The late Oba Ogunsakin ascended the throne of “Onise” of Odo-Oro-Ekiti in 1986.

Angry youths of the community took to the streets with some of them carrying dangerous weapons like sticks, cutlasses and broken bottles in search of the alleged culprit.

The youths mounted roadblocks and burn fires on major junctions that lead to the community.

It was gathered that the mad man took to his heels immediately after he committed the crime and his whereabouts still remained unknown as at the time of filling this report.

 

The chiefs of the community could not be reached for comment as they were said to be in an emergency meeting on the burial rite of the late Oba.

The market in Ikole-Ekiti was deserted as soon as the news broke out, as traders and their customers scampered for safety.
