There is tension in Edo State as the premises of the Edo State House of Assembly were on Thursday morning besieged by security officers from the Nigeria Police force.
Ayoola Ajala, deputy commissioner of police, led a detachment of officers to the assembly on Thursday.
Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were also deployed in the complex.
Rumour had it that the other elected house members who are on the side of the All Progressive Congress, APC, loyal to the former party chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole had perfected plans for sitting at the Assembly complex, which is currently under renovation.
Recall that the Edo State House of Assembly members on Wednesday, August 5, had impeached the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Yekini Idiaye.
Mr Idiaye was impeached during a plenary session of the Assembly in Benin City.
Newsflash247 had earlier reported that Hon Yekini Idiaye and four other lawmakers have declared their support for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The lawmakers are among the 10 that were inaugurated in July 2019 while 14 others remain yet to be inaugurated.

According to the lawmakers, their decision is to remain in the APC on whose platform they were elected.
They insist on not joining the state governor, Godwin Obaseki in his new party, the PDP.
The lawmakers also alleged that the state executive led by governor Obaseki has made the legislature irrelevant and unable to perform its functions as enshrined in the constitution.
