TCN debunks false report of national blackout amid workers’ strike
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has refuted a false and misleading report by an online news outlet that claimed that the Head of Public Affairs of TCN had predicted a national blackout due to the ongoing workers’ strike.
The TCN said that the report was mischievous and baseless, and that no such statement was made by the Public Affairs Head.
The TCN, in a statement signed by its management and shared on its X account on Tuesday, clarified that the nation’s power grid was intact and stable, and that it was delivering adequate electricity to distribution load centers across the country.
The TCN said that its National Control Centre Osogbo, which controls bulk power transmission nationwide, was fully operational and active.
The TCN urged the public to disregard the false report and assured that it was committed to ensuring the reliability and security of the power grid.
The TCN also appealed to the workers to call off their strike and resume their duties, as it was working to address their grievances.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby states that the publication by Daily Post alleging that the Head of Public Affairs of TCN said that there will be a national blackout is false and totally misleading.
“The statement is mischievous and baseless as TCN, through the Public Affairs Head, did not make such statement.
“We hereby note that the nation’s grid is intact and supplying bulk electricity to distribution load centers nationwide.
“As at when issuing this statement, the TCN National Control Centre Osogbo which controls bulk power transmission nationwide, is actively operational.”
