Tiv Tribe: Lawmaker Threatens N10 Billion Defamation Suit Against Venita, BBNaija Organisers

A member of the House of Representatives from Benue State, Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, has expressed his intention to sue Big Brother Naija All Stars housemate, Venita Akpofure and the organisers of the reality show for “defaming” the Tiv tribe.

He said Venita and the BBNaija platform must be held liable for spreading false and derogatory information about the Tiv culture.

Hon. Tarkighir, who represents Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, made this known via his Facebook page.

He said he was outraged by Venita’s claim that Tiv men give out their wives to visitors for entertainment purposes. He said this claim was baseless and malicious and that it tarnished the image and reputation of the Tiv people.

He said he would slam a N10 billion defamation suit on Venita, the Big Brother brand and its promoters, for providing her with the mega platform to defame an entire tribe.

He said they should have disowned her statement and corrected the misinformation.

He said he respects Venita’s right to freedom of expression, but that she crossed the line by insulting and demeaning the Tiv tribe. He said Venita should have known better, as she has two daughters with Terna Tarka, a Tiv man from Benue State.

He urged Venita to apologise to the Tiv tribe and retract her statement. He also called on the BBNaija organisers to educate their housemates on cultural sensitivity and diversity.
