Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, made a shocking move on Thursday when he showed up at the Government House at 8:30am and found out that most of the staff were still not at work.
He was greeted by only cleaners and a lone nurse who were on duty at the time of his unannounced visit.
The governor was not pleased with the situation and ordered the security personnel to close the main gate, preventing any latecomers from entering the premises. The gate was reportedly locked until around 1pm.
Sources revealed that many senior staff members and some of the governor’s aides were among those who were denied access due to their tardiness.
Governor Aliyu defended his action by saying, “This is not a matter of joke. What is expected from any serious government is to ensure a timely payment of workers’ salary.
“When I came in, I paid two months’ salaries within three weeks. That is why I drove myself to the office because my drivers did not come in time. But I will not tell you my next line of action because you too came late (referring to the interviewers).”
The governor added that, “I promised the people of Sokoto State that I would not betray their trust nor allow any public officers to do so.
“You either work or return our money. You cannot collect our money without justifying it.”
