Senator’s Aide Shot Dead in Lagos After Being Stopped by Security Operatives
A tragic incident occurred on Saturday in Lagos, as Adeniyi Sanni, a senior aide to Senator Solomon Adeola, was shot dead by unknown assailants. Sanni was on his way to his home in Isheri when he was stopped by security operatives at a checkpoint in Berger.
According to a statement issued by Kayode Odunaro, the spokesperson of Senator Adeola, who represents Ogun West, Sanni had called his wife to ask for the details of his vehicle papers, which she sent to him via WhatsApp. However, after that, his wife could not reach him on the phone again and became worried.
She alerted Sanni’s associates, who mobilised a search party to look for him. They later received a call from some passersby who found Sanni’s body dumped at Toyota bus stop in Oshodi with gunshot wounds. They identified him through the Next of Kin contact on his driving licence.
“Information available to the bereaved Senator in Abuja indicates that Mr Sanni was stopped at a checking point around Berger Area of Lagos on his way to his home at Isheri by security agents.
“He was asked to provide the documents of the car he was driving, which he did through his wife who sent all the documents to his phone WhatsApp
“It was gathered that the wife called a while later and the late Mr. Sanni told him they were still checking the vehicle’s paper. His apprehensive wife later called on Mr Sanni’s associates to say he could no longer reach her husband on the phone necessitating the mobilization of a search party.
“She was later called by passersby through the Next of Kin phone number on her husband’s driver’s license that the body of Mr Sanni was dumped around a Toyota Bus Stop in Oshodi with a gunshot wound.
Senator Adeola, who is currently involved in the ongoing ministerial nominees screening at the Senate, expressed his shock and grief over the killing of his close aide, who had worked with him for over two decades. He described Sanni as a loyal and dependable associate who would be greatly missed.
The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into the murder of Sanni and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. The police also appealed to the public to provide any useful information that could help in solving the case.
