A female student at the University of Ibadan International School, Ikhlass Olasubomi Badiru, has been suspended for two weeks for wearing hijab on school premises. The student was suspended by school authorities.
It was gathered that the student was given the suspension in a letter signed by the school principal, Phebean Olowe.
The letter signed by the principal on Monday, September 30, stated that the suspension would take place from Monday, October 7, to Friday, October 18.
In the letter, the school disciplinary committee stated that the student was found guilty of an act of impudence to school authority after it looked into students’ misconduct on Wednesday, August 28.
According to the letter, the student’s action contravenes the school’s rules and regulations. Her parents were asked to report to the counsellor on Monday, October 21, to present a written undertaking to the school to obey rules and regulations.
Newsflash247 came across the photo of the letter after a Facebook user identified as Rasheed A. Haashim shared the letter on his page. Haashim who referred to the school as hijab haters called on the principal to list the act of impudence the student showed.
Newsflash247 had reported that the suspended student’s father, Idris Badiru, had accused the principal and school staff of harassing female students. Badiru had also claimed that his daughter was maltreated.
