Lagos state government has announced that the second term for the 2020/2021 academic calendar will run for 61 days due to the daily spike in the number of COVID-10 infections.
The new decision was issued on Sunday, January 17, with the Office of the Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) saying the second term will run from January 18 to April.
While mid-term break has been scheduled for March 4 and 5, the state government said there will also be two public holidays which are Good Friday on April 2 and Easter Monday on April 5.
Newsflash247 recalls that the state on Friday, January 15, re-affirmed its earlier directive that all schools in the state, both public and private (below tertiary level), should resume on Monday, January 18, for the second term 2020/2021 academic session.
Kayode Abayomi, the head of public affairs in the state’s ministry of education, said in a statement that the affirmation was made by the commissioner for education, Folasade Adefisayo.
In a subsequent development, Lagos government said resumption for the third term has been scheduled for May 4, while the term is to terminate on August 6.
Schools have been urged to take all the necessary safety protocols against COVID-19 with seriousness.
