RMAFC Increases Tinubu’s Monthly Salary To N8m, 114% Hike for Others
The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has announced a 114 per cent increase in the salaries of President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other political and judicial office holders in the country.
The RMAFC Chairman, Muhammadu Shehu, disclosed this on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, where he presented the reports of the reviewed remuneration package to Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris.
According to Shehu, who was represented by the Federal Commissioner, Rakiya Tanko-Ayuba, Tinubu will now earn N8,013,527 monthly, up from N3,514,705 that former President Muhammadu Buhari used to receive.
He said the review was done in line with the constitutional mandate of the commission to determine the appropriate remuneration for political office holders.
He added that the last review was done in 2007 and that it was imperative to adjust the salaries based on various factors, such as inflation, public opinion and macro-economic variables.
He said the commission held a public hearing in all the six geo-political zones of the country on February 1 to gather inputs from stakeholders on the review.
He also said the commission introduced three new allowances for judicial office holders to cater for their professional development, long service and restricted lifestyle.
He said the commission recommended January 1, 2023 as the effective date for implementing the reviewed remuneration packages.
However, he said the review would only take effect after the 36 states Houses of Assembly amend relevant laws to allow for it.
He urged the state lawmakers to fast-track the amendment process to enable political, judicial and public office holders enjoy their new salaries.
He also appealed to Governor Idris to convey the report to his colleagues at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum for their consideration and action.
The governor thanked Shehu for the presentation and assured him that he would look into the report and communicate with his fellow governors on it.
