Rivers State local government election was held on Saturday. The exercise, however, recorded low turnout of voters.
The voter apathy was attributed to bad weather as the heavy downpour began early in the day.
The election, which was monitored in Ogu-Bolo, Okrika, Eleme, Ikwerre, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, and Emohua Local government areas, witnessed the late arrival of materials to polling stations.
Some respondents who spoke with our correspondent including Navy Captain Erasmus Victor, Philip Oparaji, Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Boma Iyayi among others, said the election was widely peaceful.
Also speaking, former Spokesman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Samuel Wanosike said: “RSIEC have shown that we can conduct the free and fair election in Rivers state.
“They have also shown that we can conduct elections without killing each other; without violence and destruction.
“We wish INEC can take a cue from what has happened today. We must emphasize again that we will not accept anything short of a credible election in 2019.”
