Professor ‘develops’ software to detect Covid-19 within 5 seconds
Following the new virus, Covid-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus spread across the globe, an Indian professor, Kamal Jain, has claimed that he has created software that can quickly detect a case of Coronavirus within five seconds through the use of an X-ray scan.
After using 40 days to come up with the software program, the academic has filed for a patent and has gone to meet the Indian Council of Medical Research for a thorough review, Hindustan Times reports.
A professor of civil engineering, Kamal said that the program will help reduce the cost of testing and also protect health workers from the risk of infection.
“I first developed an artificial intelligence-based database after analysing over 60,000 X-ray scans, including those of COVID-19, pneumonia and tuberculosis patients to differentiate between the kinds of chest congestion suffered in the three diseases.
I also analysed the chest x-ray database of the United States’ NIH Clinical Center,” Kamal said.
He said that the software will go a long way in assisting health professionals in having an accurate preliminary screening exercise which will assist the clinical testing of the deadly disease.
