Top allies in the camp of Professor Yemi Osinbajo are reportedly mounting pressure on the Vice President to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Recall that Osinbajo had placed third in the presidential primary election of the APC, losing the ticket to his political godfather Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Vanguard, sources confirmed active moves to draft Osinbajo into the 2023 presidential race.
The sources stated that there are suggestions regarding the possibility of an Osinbajo/Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ticket on the platform of the NNPP.
But close aides to the Vice President stated that talks of a move to the NNPP are mere speculation.
Newsflash Nigeria reports that Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of NNPP, is in talks with the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, over a political alliance.
“One of the factors driving the push for an Osinbajo/Kwankwaso ticket is the need to give vent to what is clearly a nationwide yearning for a different kind of political leadership, something that the VP has come to represent to Nigerians,” one of the sources told Vanguard.
“On the other hand, Kwankwaso is known to be an accomplished grassroots politician in the North-West who can easily complement the VP.”
According to sources, moves to draft Osinbajo back into the race are being pushed by his associates and some influential northern politicians.
The alleged plan is to substitute Kwankwaso, whose name has already been submitted to INEC, using the window of substitution, which opens until August.
