President Tinubu Cuts Down UNGA Delegation to Save Cost

President Bola Tinubu has ordered that only government officials who have direct relevance to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) should travel as part of Nigeria’s delegation.

This is part of his broader effort to reduce the cost of governance in the country and reflect the prudence and sacrifice being made by Nigerians.

According to a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, the president has instructed the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to stop issuing visas to any government official who cannot prove their direct participation in UNGA’s official activities. He also directed Nigeria’s Permanent Mission in New York to prevent and stop the accreditation of any government official who is not on the approved protocol lists.

The president further mandated all Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies to ensure that only a limited number of aides and associated staff are included in the UNGA delegation.

He warned that any excesses or anomalies in this regard will be removed during the final verification process.

The president said that he is committed to ensuring that government officials and expenditures are in line with the expectations and realities of Nigerians. He said that he will not tolerate any wastage or abuse of public funds, especially at a time when the country is facing economic challenges.

This is a significant move by President Tinubu to reduce the cost of governance in Nigeria. The UNGA is a major event, and it is estimated that Nigeria spends millions of dollars each year to send a delegation to the event. By reducing the size of the delegation, President Tinubu is saving the government money that can be used for other important purposes.

This move is also in line with President Tinubu’s campaign promises to make government more efficient and transparent. By reducing the number of government officials traveling to the UNGA, President Tinubu is sending a message that he is serious about reducing waste and corruption in government.

This is a positive development for Nigeria, and it is a step in the right direction towards reducing the cost of governance and improving transparency in government
