President Tinubu Appoints New CBN Governor and Four Deputy Governors
President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), for an initial term of five years, subject to the approval of the Nigerian Senate.
Dr. Cardoso is a renowned economist and banker, with over 25 years of experience in the financial sector.
President Tinubu also nominated four new Deputy Governors of the CBN, who will assist Dr. Cardoso in implementing the monetary and fiscal policies of the federal government.
The nominees are Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello. They have diverse backgrounds and expertise in economics, finance, accounting, and management.
The President made these appointments in accordance with Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which empowers him to appoint the Governor and four Deputy Governors of the CBN, with the consent of the Senate.
The President expressed his confidence in the nominees and urged them to work diligently to restore the stability and growth of the Nigerian economy, in line with his Renewed Hope agenda.
He also thanked the outgoing Governor and his team for their service to the nation.
