Popular Pastor Collapses at Airport, Hospitalized; Church Members Fear
Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, the founder and General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, collapsed at an unidentified airport on Thursday, June 29, 2023.
The pastor, who is known for his charitable deeds, was rushed to the hospital after he lost consciousness at the airport. The cause of his collapse is still unknown.
A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media platforms, showed the cleric lying on the floor before being carried away by some people.
A photo of him on a hospital bed was also shared on his official Facebook page with a caption that read, “Please pray for me” .
Apostle Chibuzor has been in the spotlight recently for his philanthropic gestures, such as sending two former security guards, popularly known as Happy Boys, abroad for education after they were sacked by Chicken Republic for dancing while on duty. He also paid the rent of a three-bedroom flat and gave a car to the parents of late Deborah Samuel who was killed over blasphemy.
Deborah Samuel was a female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State, who was killed by Islamic extremists in May 2022 over blasphemy allegations against Prophet Mohammed. Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere intervened and relocated her parents and siblings to Port Harcourt to start a new life.
However, the pastor has also faced some controversies, as he was accused of abandoning some of his beneficiaries, including those on scholarships abroad. He denied the allegations, saying that he only asked some of them to relocate to Nigeria or Benin Republic to continue their education.
Many of his church members and followers have taken to social media to pray for his health and recovery.
Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere was born on October 22nd 1973 in Abia State and had a humble beginning. He moved to Lagos where he slept under the bridge until he secured a job as a cleaner with the Nigeria airport authority. He also worked as a security guard and sold GSM recharge cards to survive.
He was formerly a member of Jehovah Witness but later joined Mountain of Fire Ministry where he became a house fellowship teacher. He left Mountain of Fire Ministry and became a freelance preacher of the gospel.
In 2006, he founded Omega Power Ministries and became the Apostle and General Overseer of the ministry.
He is married to Nkechi Chinyere and they have four children. He has received several awards and honours for his humanitarian services and contributions to the society.
