Popular Nigerian Rapper Oladips Dies After Battling Illness
The Nigerian music industry has been thrown into mourning as popular street rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, better known as Oladips, has died.
The 28-year-old rapper succumbed to an undisclosed illness on Tuesday night, according to a statement from his management.
The statement, which was posted on his official Instagram page, read: “We are saddened to inform the general public that Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji aka OLADIPS has passed away yesterday Nov’14 Tuesday evening, at exactly 10:14 pm.
“We are still in shock as we speak. “For over 2 years he has kept his battles within himself, his body is now with his family & funeral service will be announced as soon as it is concluded.
“The family asked that we respect their privacy in this trying time. May God give us all the fortitude to bear this great loss. (Amen) -Management.”
A video of the rapper had also emerged online, in which he was heard asking his friend, identified on Instagram as OnlyOneLifetime, to drive him to the hospital. Before being taken to the hospital, Oladips had sent a message on his Instagram story requesting his friend who had gone out to get him drugs to come back home.
The exact cause of the rapper’s illness and death is yet to be revealed.
This comes barely months after another artiste, Ilerioluwa Aloba, otherwise known as Mohbad, died in a controversial circumstance and police are still investigating the death.
Oladips was known for his rap skills and street credibility, as well as his collaborations with other artists.
Fans and fellow celebrities have taken to social media to express their shock and condolences over the rapper’s demise.
