Police speak on Tinubu convoy attacked in Osun
The Osun State police command has reacted to a viral video that some youths attacked the convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in Osun State.
Newsflash Nigeria learnt that the viral video showed a set of hoodlums attacking a convoy.
The police said the video is not true and Tinubu had not been in Osun State for any programme.
The police clarified the viral video, said it was the attack on Osun State Governor Oyetola Adegboyega’s convoy by #EndSARS protesters about two years ago, on October 17, 2020, and not on October 8, 2022, as being mischievously circulated.
A statement by the spokesman of the Osun State police command, Yemisi Opalola, said: “The attention of Osun State Police Command has been drawn to the news making the rounds and a video trending on the social media that Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s convoy was attacked by Osun youths on October 8, 2022.
“The Osun State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that the news/trending video on social media was the attack on Osun State Governor Oyetola Adegboyega’s convoy by #EndSARS protesters about two years ago, on October 17, 2020, and not on October 8, 2022, as being mischievously circulated.
“The command wishes to state that the news/video is misinforming and misleading, which is a calculated attempt to cause apprehension or state of insecurity in the state by some unscrupulous elements.”
She urged residents of the state to disregard the information and go about their legitimate businesses without entertaining fear of insecurity.
Opalola added that necessary security measures to forestall any likely breakdown of law and order were in place.
