Police reveal identity of suspected group who attacked INEC office in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has revealed the suspected group that attacked the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Owerri in Imo State.

Newsflash Nigeria had earlier reported that three people had been killed after gunmen attacked the Imo State INEC headquarters INEC), Owerri in the early hours of Monday.

The attackers burnt several INEC official vehicles parked, and destroyed many offices inside the premises including the building housing the office of the Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC).

One of the attackers was arrested by the police and three vehicles used by hoodlums were recovered.

But the Imo State Police Command said they linked the attack on the INEC to the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Spokesman of the Command, Mike Abattam, said the gunmen who attacked INEC’s office in the state were members of IPOB.

Abattam said investigations into the attack showed that IPOB members were responsible.

“They are suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra. It is the outcome of our investigation that will determine those that will be held complicit.

“We gave them a hot chase. The Command’s tactical teams were able to follow them and in the process, we were able to neutralize three of them,” he told Channels TV.
