Police react to letter sent to churches in Ekiti by terrorists

Ekiti State Police Command has reacted to the threat letter written to the churches in the state by Bandits.

Newsflash Nigeria learnt that there was trending news circulated in Ekiti State that bandits had written a letter to some churches in Oye local government of the state.

The news causes panic and fear among Ekiti communities, especially the Christians.

Our correspondent visited some churches in Oye Ekiti, Ayegbaju Ekiti and Ilupeju Ekiti in Oye local government area to confirm the authenticity of the letter written by bandits, Newsflash Nigeria confirmed that no churches received any threat letter from the terrorists.

Meanwhile, the Police Command said it is not aware of any threat by terrorists to attack churches in the state.

In a statement by the Command, a report about such a threat was described as “purely false information” concocted by disgruntled elements.

The Police urged the general public to disregard the information and remain safe, calm and security conscious.

The statement read, “The Command is not aware of any threat letter written to any church and no church has come to lodge any complaint in relation to this.

“The trending news was concocted by disgruntled elements and enemies of the society to cause unnecessary apprehension.

“While the Command is assuring the good people of Ekiti State of adequate security in worship centres, markets, recreational centres and other public places, members of the public are implored to disregard the information, remain calm and be security conscious.

“The Command under the leadership of CP MORONKEJI O. ADESINA shall continue to do its best to ensure the safety of lives and properties of the good people of Ekiti State.”

Newsflash Nigeria recalls that some terrorists on June 5 attacked St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, during which scores were killed and many injured.

Some suspects connected to the attack have since been arrested by the military and the Department for State Services.

This was announced on Monday by the Chief of Defence Staff, CDS Lucky Irabor, and confirmed by the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN.
