Police parade banker on how helped the robbers in the foiled Abuja bank robbery

The Nigerian Police Force, NPF, on Tuesday, December 31, 2019, have paraded three suspects who attempted to rob the First Bank in Mpape area of Abuja last Saturday.

A bank employee, Larry Ehizo, 30, led three other accomplices namely, Timothy Joe, 21, Princewill Obinna, 24 and Elijah David, 19, to the bank in an attempt to steal a huge sum of money.

Ehizo, who planned the robbery also drove his cohorts to the bank in his car and gave them directions on how to access the vault.

Larry Ehizo, a Customer Service Officer of a First bank at Mpape, Abuja, where a robbery attempt was foiled by policemen and soldiers last Saturday has given details of how the robbers gained access to the banking hall with his help.

According to him, the mastermind of the robbery, one Ernest, who is at large, had threatened to kill his family if he did not comply.

Parading the suspects on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Ciroma, said efforts were in progress to arrest other suspects who are on the run.

He said, “Four locally made pistols, one Peugeot 206 with reg. no. SBG 752 FP; two cutlasses; two daggers; one axe; a pair of pliers; one infinix note phone and one saw blade was recovered from the suspects.

The effort is being intensified to arrest other members of the gang who are at large.”

Meanwhile, Newsflash247 had earlier reported that Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have killed one and arrested four suspects who attempted to rob a First Bank in the Mpape, a satellite town of Abuja.

The robbers, who broke into the bank around 10 am on last Saturday, met resistance from the Police, Army and the Department of State Security, who cordoned the place minutes after responding to a distress call.

According to the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Mariam Yusuf, four of the robbers have been arrested while one was killed in an exchange of gunfire with the Police.

He said one of those arrested was a staff of the bank, who was acting as an insider for the four others.

The police spokesperson said the situation has been brought under control as a joint security team have maintained sanity in the area

The thieves were trapped inside the bank for over four hours.

He said it was a foiled robbery attempt as nothing was lost or taken away from the bank.
