PHOTOS: Lagos youths hold rally for Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu
The Lagos State youth supporters of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, held a rally at some major parts of the state.
The youths also show solidarity and support for the candidacy of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, gubernatorial candidate of the APC.
The supporters in their large numbers wore white vests carrying the insignia of APC and the picture of Tinubu.
The youths were seen with various APC paraphernalia including brooms and flags as they marched from Maryland on Mobolaji Bank Anthony way to Police College via Ikeja, the state capital.
They were also seen with large banners with bold photos of Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, and Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Obafemi Hamzat.
The rally organised by Tinubu’s son, Seyi is tagged ‘Eko Youth Walk For Tinubu- Shettima, Sanwo-Olu- Hamzat.’
The march saw a huge presence of scores of officers from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
LASTMA, in an advisory on Friday, announced the temporary closure of some roads in the state capital and adjoining areas to traffic on Saturday due to the march.
This is the third major rally in Lagos for Tinubu. The first was held on October 3, 2022, by women who took to the streets to show their support for Tinubu. The second rally held two weeks ago was organised by the Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Committee, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.
Tinubu, a former Lagos governor between 1999 and 2007 in the race for Aso Rock’s top job alongside other leading contenders like Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) in a contest that analysts have described as a three-horse race.
Similarly, Sanwo-Olu, the present governor of Lagos, is seeking re-election alongside Hamzat. Sanwo-Olu’s major challenger so far is PDP’s Olajide Adediran better known as Jandor.
Sanwo-Olu was recently endorsed by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, a top chieftain of the PDP.
However, Jandor, while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, berated Wike for such an action.
“Nobody expects that a party man, a national leader will do that for any reason at all, but it has happened and there is nothing we can do about it.
“My worry is this, he should be our role model at his level, as a governor, your office should come with a symbol of decorum,” the PDP governorship candidate in Lagos said.
Jandor also noted that he did “not do anything” against Wike to warrant such treatment, claiming that Sanwo-Olu has failed Lagosians.
Recall that President Buhari, on Friday, inaugurated the Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, of the APC.
In the event, Tinubu vowed to continue fighting corruption like President Muhammadu Buhari did if elected president.
Mr Tinubu pledged to continue Buhari’s civil service reforms to reduce corruption.
The APC presidential candidate said his administration would ensure the reduction of waste in the civil services if he succeeds Buhari in 2023.
“We will continue the work of the current administration in reforming the civil service to fight corruption, reduce bureaucracy, streamline agencies and decrease inefficiency and waste,” the document reads in part.
Tinubu had released an 80-page policy document that highlights an eight-point agenda.
Top on his priority lists of action plans was national security, economy, agriculture, power, oil and gas, transportation and education.
The 80-page document, containing multi-sectoral policy options, was tagged “Renewed Hope 2023 – Action Plan for a Better Nigeria.”
