An unidentified group has submitted petitions to the Ministry of Justice, Information and Culture, demanding that Facebook be banned permanently in Nigeria.
Recall that Nigeria recently banned Twitter after the social media platform deleted a tweet by President Muhammadu Buhari. The Nigerian government also accused Twitter of acting against the interest of Nigeria.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had cited ‘the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence as the reason for the suspension.
Meanwhile, a group on Friday submitted petitions to the Ministry of Justice, Information and Culture, for another giant social media, Facebook to be banned permanently in Nigeria.
The group which turned up at the Ministry of Justice with placards accused Facebook of censoring comments on the platform even though they are making millions from the country.
The leader of the group said he was given a strike after he shared the confessional statement of a terrorist, an action that is against the community standards of the platform.
The group also alleged that his reach on the platform has been reduced, adding that the social media giant needs to be “spoken to in a language they understand”.
Meanwhile, the Nigerians have reacted to the unidentified group, they said the President Buhari administration is using the group to achieve their aim on social media.
