Governor Ayodele Fayose with civil servants and labour leaders welcoming Ekiti State Accountant General, Mrs. Yemisi Owolabi and the Commissioner for Finance, Chief Toyin Ojo back to Ado-Ekiti after two weeks incarceration at the EFCC headquarters.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for justice, Kolapo Kolade, Esq, has said the government and people of the state have no gratitude to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the release on Wednesday of the state’s Finance Commissioner, Toyin Ojo and Accountant General, Mrs. Yemisi Owolabi who were picked up by the Commission on September 28 and held for two weeks before releasing them unconditionally
Stating that the duo were held by EFCC for no just cause other than to intimidate and harass Governor Ayodele Fayose and the state, Kolade, while addressing the crowd that welcomed the officials at the Fajuyi Park in Ado-Ekiti, said: “Today, October 12, is exactly two weeks that Chief Toyin Ojo, Ekiti State Finance Commissioner, and Mrs. Yemisi Owolabi, the Accountant General were unlawfully arrested, incarcerated and subjected to mental, emotional and physical torture by the agents of darkness called the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for no just cause in an attempt to harass, oppress and intimidate our Governor and Our dear state. We have no thanks to them for releasing the government officials as we know it is not in their character to do so, except for the intervention of God and the judiciary.
” Those who plunged our state into debt are walking freely on the streets while EFCC is looking the other way despite available and verifiable shreds of evidence against them.”
Lauding governor Fayose’s efforts in delivering good governance, Kolade said: “Today, Ekiti is progressing in education and physical infrastructure as evident in outstanding performances in NECO, WAEC, and other external examinations. Also, legacy projects such as the gigantic fly-over bridge, ultra-modern Oja-Oba market, modern High Court, befitting Women Development Centre complex, and dualisation of roads and other projects are taking place simultaneously.
The state’s commissioner for justice, therefore, condemned the detention of the officials without bringing forth any evidence of charges against them: “Ekiti people vehemently condemn these politically motivated acts of injustice, wickedness and high-handedness
“The question to ask is that; what is the allocation coming to Ekiti from the federation account and who are those that have complained to the EFCC on missing fund in Ekiti?
He also lambasted the Federal Government for allegedly shielding its officials from EFCC’s dragnets, saying: “So many corruption cases such as the NNPC-Baru/
“Obviously, the EFCC is presently behaving as a pet dog on allegations of corruption against allies of the President while acting as a lion when it involves perceived political enemies of the President.”
Alleging that EFCC as corruption itself, Kolade said: “Even the EFCC itself is corruption that is investigating corruption. Nigerians are daily losing confidence in them and they should bury their heads in shame.
“We say enough to these injustice, maltreatment, militarization, and lack of respect for due process and rule of law. We believe in our God and the Court to give us justice as we know that EFCC takes pleasure in injustice and lacks penchant for doing good.
” We urge Nigerians and the International Community to join hands in defending our hard-earned democracy even as we remain resolute in our belief and efforts at liberating the good people of Ekiti from the long hands of these oppressors, who masquerade as Democrats. The triumph of evil over good can only be temporary, ” he said.
