Peter Obi reacts as thugs set ablaze spare parts market in Lagos

In the early hours of Wednesday, suspected thugs set the spare parts market ablaze at Kirikiri road Ajegunle, Ajeromi Ifelodun in Lagos State, leading to the destruction of goods worth millions of Naira.

The attacked spare parts market by thugs, which is mostly dominated by the Igbos.

The Tolu Police Division of the Nigerian Police recovered a lifeless body of a male adult around the scene of the fire incident.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi has commiserated with the victims.

Reacting to the incident, Peter Obi via his Twitter handle on Wednesday expressed sadness whilst commiserating with those affected by the fire disaster.

He further called on the government to investigate the cause of the outbreak and find ways to help traders who were affected by the incident.

He said: “This morning, I received the sad news of the fire outbreak at Akere Spare Parts Market in Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle, Lagos. Hopefully, no life was lost, but the means of livelihood and properties, worth millions of naira, lost to the inferno are of great concern to me.

“I commiserate deeply with all those affected by this fire disaster. I call on the government and relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the fire outbreak thoroughly and forestall future occurrences while finding ways to help the affected victims.

 “The need for equal protection under the law; and the government’s meeting of her responsibility to protect lives and property cannot be overemphasised.”
