PDP Welcomes Atiku’s Return
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s official rejoining of the party as a “welcome development.”
The PDP praised Mr. Abubakar’s defection in a press release signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, and published on Sunday.
The former vice president had left the PDP to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but announced on Sunday that he was returning to the PDP.
The opposition party said that it believes Mr. Abubakar’s return will help rebuild the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
In its press release, the PDP urged others who have defected from the PDP to “return home,” while encouraging dissatisfied members of the APC and other parties to join the PDP.
“We are equally extending our invitation to all those in the APC who are frustrated by the party’s failure to deliver the goods,” Mr. Adeyeye said. “Anyone who is desirous of a return to the era of abundance and freedom under the PDP administration is welcome. The umbrella is big enough to accommodate all.”
The press release also announced that the PDP would be electing new national leaders on December 9-10, 2017. The party invited all members to congregate in Eagle Square, Abuja to partake in the election.
