PDP G-5 Governors Meet with President Tinubu in Abuja
A group of five governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), comprising four former and one serving governor, held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Tuesday night.
The meeting, which lasted for about two hours, was held at the Presidential Villa, after the governors had earlier met at the residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Wike, who is the leader of the group and a former governor of Rivers State, led his colleagues to seek a working relationship with the president ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The other governors in the group are: Samuel Ortom, former governor of Benue State; Ifianyi Ugwuanyi, former governor of Enugu State; Okezie Ikpeazu, former governor of Abia State; and Seyi Makinde, the incumbent governor of Oyo State.
A source close to the meeting, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the governors discussed how they could be accommodated in the president’s political agenda and how they could cooperate with him on national issues.
The source also said that the meeting was significant, as it came barely 24 hours before the PDP governorship campaign in Imo State and amid the controversy over the party’s national secretary position.
