PDP Challenges Wike To Prove Allegation Of Corruption Against Members

  • The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP challenges Wike to prove allegation of corruption against members

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to prove his allegation against members of a committee set up to investigate issues surrounding the emergence of Ndudi Elumelu as minority leader of the House of Representatives.

Mr Elumelu was elected minority leader against the wish of PDP which favoured Kingsley Chinda.

Wike, who was also opposed to Elumelu’s emergence, accused the committee members of plotting to favour Elumelu in the report.

“The committee set up by the PDP on the illegal emergence of Ndudi Elumelu is the most corrupt committee ever set up by the party,” Wike said on Wednesday after hailing Austin Opara for withdrawing from the committee.

Other members of the committee include David Mark, Adolphus Wabara, and Ibrahim Mantu who are all members of the BoT.

In reaction to Wike’s accusations, PDP BoT chairman, Walid Jubril, challenged any member of the party with proof of allegations against any member of the committee to speak out instead of casting aspersions on the members.

He said the board would meet next Thursday to deliberate on the committee’s report and make a decision.

“I will not condemn any member of the committee without any proof of evidence of corruption. I challenge anybody anywhere to provide proof of the allegations of corruption,” he said.

“He who alleges must show evidence of corruption. It is not enough to accuse anyone of any wrongdoing. I call on anyone; both party members and non-party members to come forward with evidence of corruption and you will see what the BoT will do.”
